hey there guys I wanted your input on this, I have a 97 cavy with manual locks and was trying to find a keyless entry kit for my car.....I found this one on ebay and was wondering if it was worth the money to buy and how much of a pain in the a$$ it is to install?

Locks & Actuators

My best advice is you dont know a lot about eletrical work then dont do it yourself. I consider myself very good at eletrical work on cars, but would be very relucant doing that.

I did it on a 98 cav two door. I got the kit from a local car audio place (Toys With Noise, great store!) and got two generic actuators (they're all the same) and a Scytek Astra 50 keyless entry box (two remotes, trunk pop and two extra outputs) for $100.

Taking the doors apart takes *forever*, and mounting the actuators is tougher than you'd expect. But honestly, get a friend to help you and take your time and it's not an awful job. Wiring in parking lights and horn support is a little more tricky but I managed it all on my own. I'd say go for it, I could never go back to manual locks now.

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

cwalksta17: I installed that same exact kit on my 03 Cavalier just a few days ago. Overall, it was pretty easy. The actuators are 2-wire, which means limited wiring, that is compared to a 5-wire actuator kit. I tried to install keyless entry one time before, using the 5-wire actuators, and I never could figure it out(I kept blowing a fuse, so I gave up).

Anyhoo, the hardest part of the install, for me, was trying to get the wiring through the doors. Those little rubber, "accordion" looking tubes, between the door and the body, are very small and narrow, making it hard to get the 2 wires through them(This is when you'll be glad you have the 2-wire actuator kit over the 5-wire kit.).

I could go on and on with details, but I don't want to bore you. I am very satisfied with the kit, and I'm sure you will be too. The only downside to the kit is that you have to use the remote to lock and unlock the doors, which isn't a big deal to me, but that might bother some people.

BTW, I thought this was gonna be a very cheap kit, as far as components were concerned. The actuators are actually made by Autoloc, which is one of the best names in the business.

You can email me if you need any help with the install... jettabrett92@netscape.net

Good luck.
