Will an airbag and steering wheel from a 2001 Sunfire work in a 2002 Cavalier. I know the steering wheel works, but will the airbag plug and play and actually deploy, or are the airbags computer coded? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Just for anyone interested, I spoke with a GM parts guy, and he says that the vehicle airbags are encoded for the specific vehicle by the VIN code. I guess this swap won't work, but thought the info was useful for those considering a different GM wheel.

they are incorrect on that. They will work.

Yes they will work as John stated. Most times don't listen to GM employees because 98% of them are just going to tell you what they are told to say.

It does work. I just made the swap the other night, and there are no problems. Wheel looks much better than a Cav wheel. As soon as i get it wrapped in leather, and clean the car, I'll post some pics.

The Sunfire GT's came with leather steering wheels
Yeah, but not two tone leather to match the rrest of the interior. Wheelskins look awesome if you don't want to lose the airbag and go with an aftermarket wheel.

You could grab a Sunfire GT leather wheel, and use SEM Color Coat to dye it whatever colours you want.... I'm using a Toyota Cavalier leather wheel, sprayed black to match the rest of the interior.
