IAC Valve
Sunday, June 25, 2006 11:57 PM
My car has been idling at 1500 rpms for a little while now, and i was thinking it was because of the header leak i had. Well i fixed the leak and the idle is still up there. My buddy told me that if i unplug my IAC valve and the idle doesnt drop then its bad. So i did that and it didnt move at all. Is that true? Anyone had this problem b4? I have to turn the A/C on for the idle to drop.

What your friend told you is wrong. If you unplug the IAC, the needle doesn't go back so the idle won't change. Check for Vacuum leak, not exhaust leak.

Do you have a check engine light?

no check engine light, and it is the IAC valve thats bad. It was sticking and would just idle where it stuck at.

Check for a vacume leak anyways. If you have one and your IAC is trying to adjust for it, it can f*ck it up.

also might want to check the throttle position sensor. That can also cause the idle to go up.

i had your same problem just a while back, i cleaned the IAC, and replaced the TPS, and it did nothing. Just last week i changed my spark plugs, and what do u know, everything is all better.

Ill make a sig someday
