I was long block 2.4's the other day (my 2.2 is on it's last leg) and noticed something odd...
Is there a major difference between 96-99 2.4's and 2000+ (non-Eco) that would cause the newer ones to be $2000 more?
i dont know where you were looking man but i can get very low mileage 2.4's for about $750 96-99 . The only difference on the 00' and up 2.4's is knock sensor and injecors and those engines i get for besically the same price man.
I agree I have bought a few 2000+ 2.4's with nice miles for anywhere from $750-950. Yes there is differences, but nothing to major.

96-98 2.4 motors have the EGR and the 99+ 2.4s dont have one

To be honest, I can't remember where I was looking either. I just did a Google search for LD9 Crate Engine
I'll probably go with the yard picking route. As long as the block and crank are solid, that's all that matters. Everything else is planned to be replaced w/ aftermarket and some new OEM parts.
Thanks for the responses.
