Tuesday, August 01, 2006 12:30 PM
Hey all, a buddy of mine has a 2002 cavy with a 3400 swap. it hauls right now, but were looking to make it faster, an decided to go with a turbocharger. the only problem with this is, we dont know where to start with kits for 3400 engines. does anyone know of a name or a place where i can find information on how to turbo this pig? its the motor out of a 2002 grand am i believe, if thats nessecary.

thanks for any help, and im sure i posted in the wrong forum, is so, please help me out. Thanks!

I would do one of those remote mount setups. They go back where the muffler goes. That way, you do not have to try to shove it in where the downpipe is. check this thread out:

The TGP has the 2nd Gen 660. The turbo parts from that car wont match up to the 3400. So dont try.

Who's this guy with the 3400 swap? I know of very few people with that swap. Myself being one of them. Anyways, for a turbo kit... you'll probably be on your own.

That would be a simple process of making an adapter on the crossover pipe with a small extention to get the turbo in an accessable place. And blocking off the end of the rear exhaust manifold.

I don't think they make one for a 3400 jbody swap application.

and I wouldn't trust rsm as far as I could throw them

I doubt they do... but it'll probably still fit.

The 3400 turbo, you will need the rear exhaust manifold off of the 3100. The 3400 style manifold doesnt allow much flow from the rear ports to the crossover pipe. The 3100's will make it much easier. Then you block off the port for the downpipe on the rear manifold. And modify the crossover pipe. There ya go, turbocharged 3400.

I couldnt find his actual trap speed. But his sig. on V6z24.com says 'Low 12's or bust'

It's 3400 swapped with a T04B turbo.

sorry, havent been around for a while, and i didnt read all the stuff that everyone posted here yet, the guy that i know with the cav isnt on the org, im working on getting him here, and eventually Ill steal his camera to take some pics of the setup hes running, its the ultimate sleeper so far.

im going to do some more research on the setup for boost, im NOT going to go with anything from rsm based on what ive heard from them. Ill look around a little more and see what we can come up with.

thanks for all the help so far (even if i havent read it yet)

Looks like the turbo is mounted where the battery goes. That has to look like spaghetti pipes. i cant see really well in the pic. If you can get ahold of him see if you can get a better shot. Im interested but Im not sure I want a huge headache.
