Is this for real, 1995 vert? Ebay find....

Well since I have three cavy verts, (98 5 speed, 96 5 speed, 2000 auto <for sale) I like to find out as much as I can about them. I have a lot of original sales literature that is dealer only and it says there was no 1995 verts for the 3g, insted they would come out with it in 1996. I found this on ebay, does the guy have his years off?

VIN says its a 95, and the build date is 7/24/95, might just be a diamond in the rough.

I dont know if this is a real one but there are companies that sell kits for convertables. This may be a kit conversion. You might check the option codes on the spare tire cover to see if its a factory convertable.

its a factory vert for sure, and it has a 2.3 quad 4 so its definetly a 95 might be one that they snuck out early! definetly a cool find, i also thought the verts werent available till 96

I would be weiry of this one. Mainly because there is no engine pic, and it says it has a 2.2 engine (actually twice), but in the desc it says 2.3.

According to standard GM practice, doesn't a build date of 7/24/95 qualify as 96 model year, or do next-year builds start in August? Well, if the VIN decodes to 95, that's what everyone will have to go by.

According to the production numbers I have, there were 1,651 convertibles made in the 95 model year... 901 of those were Cavaliers, 750 were Sunfires. I don't know what engines they had... mostly 2.2L's I suspect, but I know of at least one or two 2.3L 'verts that are here on the JBO.

So, yes... it's legit.

I've been researching useless facts for 6 years now.

Body style seems to indicate to me that this is the 2.2 engine and not the 2.3.

All the 'verts looked like that until 98 or 99... when they became Z24's.

So even the 96 and 97 2.4L 'verts had the base model bumpers...

John, how many 2.2L z24s were made, there was a span where the 2.4 was not put in and instead the 2.2L ohv was the engine in the Z24, any idea how many were made?

Exactly zero. There was no 2.2L (OHV) used in a Z24.

Now a convertible? I have no idea.. I don't have those kinds of breakdowns. I have an Excel file from GM, that shows the total numbers of models each year (by division.. ie Chevy, Buick, etc).. I also have breakdowns by plant. All of the cars made at Lansing 3 plant were convertibles (third gens, that is)... so I know how many were made each model year.

I have no idea how many blue 4 doors with 5 speeds were made... the information isn't that detailed.

I do have better breakdowns for 03 and 04... by model and plant... mind you, there's only two plants at that point!! No colours or other options tho. I have nothing for 05 production numbers.

Acutally there was, I think it was Ferrite who posted that for a few months the 2.2 was put into Z24s. I have to search for the pst but when I do I will post it.
