Difference between 1 and 2 mufflers? (Fire)

I just wanted to know the difference. Like why they made both.

My 2003 sunfire has a dual exhaust. All the others I have seen only have one.

Why did the manufacturer do this?

It was a factory appearance option.

Us Z24 guys never got that option....
But ya, just made it look cool. GT models had it I think.

95-02 Sunfire GT's had dual outlet standard I believe. In 03+, there was no GT, so it became an option

SE's came with the dual tip single that's on the Z's

If you've seen the size of the passenger side muffler you'll laugh. They might as well have just hung a tip there its so small. But hey it does look nice. Duals on my Z would be nice.

I was just curious.........If I had my hands on a junkyard Sunfire GT - and tore the exhaust system off of it..........could it go on a Z24 of similar year and fit ok?

Both of mine now are the same sized.. same with the piping between them, as well as the tips..

It should fit physically as there is no difference under the cars. There won't be any hangers though but that isn't hard to change. I would take the system to a shop, and say reproduce this with 2" to each muffler and make it fit my car. Problem solved. Or just tell them you want a Y put in and dual mufflers, then you don't need the other system LOL.

^^^Might run into problems with the bumper cutouts for the exhaust tips, otherwise it should fit.
