at what RPM does a 96-01 2.2L 115hp go 80 miles per hour?
Automatic and Manual
2.2 ECOTEC 02-up
Automatic and Manual also
What gear?
My car (manual '97 2.2):
Redline in 3rd
4000 ish in 4th
3500-ish in 5th

3000 rpms in 5th 78 in top of 3rd @ 6k
I can't believe you need to be on fourth gear at 80mph. it s*** IMO.

Ohh, you can do it in 3rd gear, but your RPM's will probaly be around 5500.
And yes, 3000 - 3200 RPM's is where mine sits at going 80mph. 2600rpm at 70ish.

Don't do it on a regular basis... only when passing. 5th doesn't cut it when I have to pass 3 cars
in 4th, the gear ratio averages around 500 RPM every 10mph anyhow, so that's just a close approximation.
I remember doing 80MPH in 3rd gear when I had my first cav 2200 115hp
(IT did not have a tachometer)
we all do stupid @!#$
anyway,
I have this Subaru Legacy with a 2.2 5spd manual and when I go 80mph the RPMs are @3500
The Z24 2.4 4spd automatic used to do 80MPH @ 3000
Now is it redline or 5500rpm at 80mph on third?
I ask because the Hm 282 in the Gtz hit 100mph with the stock rev limiter at 6800rpm.

Every car is just a tad different, plus you have a different displacement engine with a different tranny with different gearing as your comparison...
2.2 Eco Auto -- 2750rpm - 3000rpm @ 80mph
2.4 Cavalier Automatic
080MPH @ 3000RPM
090MPH @ 3500RPM
108MPH @ 4000RPM
2.2 Legacy Manual
070MPH @ 3000RPM
080MPH @ 3500RPM
090MPH @ 4000RPM
100MPH @ 4500RPM
Is the 2200 Cavalier same as the 2.2 Legacy?

add to that different make/model, so no.
Not sure what this comparison is trying to accomplish
I think 3500RPMs is too high but if the 2200 (115hp) rans as high as the 2.2 Legacy AMEN!
I would feel a little bit better and I don't want to hit 80mph in 3rd gear with the legacy
what?
Hey you have a Manual 2.2
What's the RPM Reading @ 70MPH?
does it have a tac?

Should be 3000rpm @ 83mph.
Should be able to top it out around 88, 89mph at the rev limiter in 3rd.
Manual, 80 MPH = 3100 RPM. Our small variations are probably mostly due to the gauges being off slightly.
"The Blue Bullet"
if i remember correctly my old 99 sunfire 2200/3 spd turned 3500@80mph. my 04 ls sport eco/4spd is 3000@80mph. thats with stock sized tires. 195/70-14 on the fire and 205/55-16 on the cavi.

1st gear is i think up to 35.
2nd gear is around 65.
3rd is around 95 mph.
4th is good up to 105 or so.
5th is up to 126.
Thats in a 2004 2.2 Eco 5 spd.
It Might differ on a 4 speed auto, but mine is exactly to the mark 3,000 rpms at 80 mph and about 3500 or so at 90 possibly my tach is off though in terms of accuracy.
at 80mph in my sunfire with 2.2/3sp it at 4000rpm
