2.4 swap into 2.3 car?
Tuesday, March 13, 2007 5:29 PM
My friend has a 1995 Cavalier Z24 5spd, with the 2.3 quad 4. (did not even KNOW there was a 2.3)

The engine in it died, a junkyard 2.4 engine was purchased, but yeah, it does not look like it will "fit"

what is involved in making this swap work? The intake and exhaust manifolds are different, but the mounts are in different places and it does not look like the axle will bolt to this block. The junkyard motor came with a cracked cam cover and the 2.3 cam cover is different also.

Thanks for ANY information you can give me!

ok..im not really sure what the problem is since the 2.4 and the 2.3 have EXACTLY the same mounts..i dont know what your looking at but both the upper AND the lower mounts are the same..unless the 2.4 came out of a differnt car in which case simply has the wrong mounts attached to it...just use the mounts off the 2.3 that came with the car and youll be fine..
second, and this is just a suggestion..the 1995 2.3 z24 was the EASIEST of all Jbodies to swap a 2.3 HO engine into..cheap to buy,180hp stock, and will drop right in that car and run with no modification..if modifying isnt your thing just stick with the 2.4..trust me..itll fit

Agreed. Find yourself a 2.3 HO and swap that in. Anything 1992 - 1994 has the same mounts, just don't get another 1995 2.3. If you need any help, feel free to surf on over to quad4forums.com there are some very nice guys there.

I doubt he wants to buy two engines.
