car won't start after parked for winter HELP!!
Tuesday, April 03, 2007 9:12 AM
I park my 99 z24 2.4T/C Secret cam swap, HO Intake, CAI, Full Flowmaster exhaust, HO pulley ETC ETC last fall. I drove it to where it is now, running fine. Went out last week tried to start it. NOTHING. Car is turning over fine, fuel pump is kicking on, lots of fuel. Absolutely no spark. I have already tried new crank sensor, cam sensor, coil pack, module under 2.4 cover(on top pf engine. Computer, right year exact same numbers. Im beginning to run out of patience. What could cause this? Bad spark plugs from sitting,? Any ideas? Thanks Jay

Happen to check your fuses by chance?

Go get a DMM if you dont have one...

Start checking wires.

Have you checked every fuse? I mean every single fuse, even the ones you wouldnt find without looking real hard in the engine bay(ok maybe not that hard but people over look them)

I got a list of things, but i never worked on my cav, so im not sure what is the same between the cavi and my jeep or truck...

There are some flow charts that cover pretty much every different scenirieo(sp)

Ya know..check this..does this work if no go to step 5, if yes skip to step 9...Ill see if i can find one for the cav..

There are some cases where they wont work..but its not often...

I just noticed you asked if it could be bad spark plugs..are you saying you didnt check these first??

You could buy a spark tester(every auto store sells them and they are cheap.)

Or use the screw drive method...

Just insert screw driver, hold it by the handle(try to use one that doesnt conduct electricity through the handel..) and hold it within 1/4in of metal...it should arch to the metal when trying to turn over the car...

Remove the coil wire from the distributor cap, insert screwdriver as mentioned above, and hold it about 1/4” from a metal part of the engine. Crank the engine over.

Spark?

If you don’t have spark at the coil wire-to-distributor cap, then check for power getting to the ignition coil.

I can go on if need be..

Im going to try another coil pack. The one I put on was an old one i had laying around that may have been no good. Im getting a good one tomorrow and im thinking thats probly wut it is. I checked all my sensors and there all showing .05 like the book says they should. Even the connector for the coil pack. Power going in but not coming out.
