I just wanted to let every one know what I recently ran into at work.
A customer has his 95 sunfire towed in, no start, it almost does.
it has spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse, new plugs , wires, ignition module, coils.
I messed with this thing for a month off and on, kept thinking that it has everything that It needs to run.
Checked the compression, it was pretty good, around 140. I tried a computer , thinking that the ecm was causing the odd problem.
Nope. The thing only has 86k on it so I really didnt think the timing chain went.
So on a last ditch effort, I took the timing chain cover off , finding that the guides and tensioner are in pieces, chain is still good. The slop that was created from the tensioner and guide failure was enough to knock the timing out just enough to cause it not to start.
Oh another thing,
KIA OWNERS BE WARE. Be sure to change the timing belt when it is due......
It will destroy the valves, 6 breaking into 3 pieces when the piston smashes them. Also causing rod and main bearings to scarr , also damage to the crank. This happened at a stop sign .
2004 KIA Optima 72k manual said to change at 60k, $1900 later the customer gets to drive it again.
Was not covered under warranty because it is owners neglect to read the manual and perforn the maintenance procedures. Is what the KIA dealer told her.
