ok so its been raining and snowing here in kansas for the past week and after it had stopped i looked in my trunk and it was all wet....so i lifted up the spare tire cover and it was like a minature swimming pool....so basically i dont even know where to start ...is it a leak or what?
i'd like to know too. i have the same problem.............
Yah it's a leak lol. Only way to find it is to dry the whole trunk. Take everything out of the trunk so that you can see everywhere. Like take out all the carpeting and the spare. Fold the rear seat down and get inside the trunk. Have your trunk closed and have a friend start spraying the trunk like it is raining. Not a strong blast on the car but like if it was raining really hard. Start at one side of the trunk and continue all the way around the trunk gaps. Spray the back window also around the edges. While you are in the trunk with a flash light look to see where the water is coming in from.
Could be a leaking light or torn weather strip. Maybe your trunk is not sealing properly. Alot of things. You might need to use some seam sealer on the seams of the quarter. It can leak from anywhere even the back panel. So spray it all down very well and look everywhere. You will find it. Good luck guys.
Yeah i just bought an 03 with a leaky sunroof. If you have a sunroof, check that out too.
I had that problem when it rained really hard, or when it rained for a couple days straight. It was my tails, I guess the "weather stripping" went bad. I just put some gasket maker around the "holes" for the tails. no more leaks. good luck...
Getting "better built" for the '08...
thanks guys....im thinkin it might be my tails because i had to take them out to black them out so ill check those first!!
Also Check the rear passanger side..there is a Fresh air vent in the..On my 05 Sunfire I put a new blub in and the wire caught the rubber flap holding it open..lots of water in the trunk from that..Took it out and made a ABS filler plate and siliconed the hell out of it..No water now...And really have seen no effect from doing this..
a good way to check your trunk is to take a dollar bill and put it in half way between the lid and the quater panel. close the lid and see if its snug in there. if you can move it pretty freely, then open the trunk, take a hammer and hit the beat up the little piece of metal that there weather stripping is at on the quater panel. close the trunk and try again. i do this all the time when i use to swap my trunk lid during inspections.
my friend mom has a 2004 sunfire and hers did the samething brought it to the dealer it was the back window
