97 2.2OHV and the only engine thing I know of that went wrong was both the crank and the cam sensors went at the same time. otherwise, steering rack imploded and wouldn't do anything at all. quite funny really.

I currently have 178k. no major issues. I know I can make it past the 200k mark. this is a 2.2 ohv, btw. I had a '90 cav vl with the 2.2 and it died on the highway with 425k on the clock. I just figured at that mileage it was no longer worth fixing. Maybe i shoulda kept it and gone for an insane record, but there comes a time to let go.

1997 2.2 OHV (only 122,000 miles)

1.Fuel injectors
2. couple of alternators
3. couple of batteries
4. belts
5. radiator hose
4. starter
5. fuel pump
6. struts
7. belt tensoiner pulley

this car has had it's share of problems, the starter, fuel pump, and fuel injectors, are all my fault for driving stupid cuz the car was my mom's, and I used to steal it and go as fast as I could with it, now that it's mine I'm more responsible with it, and I love this car more than I love my girlfriend, or anything else that I own for that matter

My '96 is at 249.7K miles. Rebuilt the 2.2 motor & tranny at 197K when the ex warped the head, runnig w/o a thermostat or sufficiant coolant. Rebuilt the motor w/ +.75mm overbore, but the cylinder walls looked good, didn't really need to be overbored. Repairs before that: alternator, water pump and timing chain. Otherwise normal wear and tear items(batteries, belts, plugs, etc...).

BTW, theres a "How many miles does your ______________ have" thread on each of the different motors

I have 163,000 miles on my 2000 2.4L and still enjoy the car.

The only major item I have had to replace is the fuel pump at about 120k miles.

Everything else is OEM, even the water pump.

Of course I have had to replace the battery, brake pads, oh yeah, the PS pump started leaking last year so I replaced that.

Still get 34mpg on the highway and 28-29 mpg combined. I've been running Mobil 1 for the last 65k miles with 10k mile oil change intervals.

I think if i do it right i should have no problem seeing 200,000 or even more, even though at 103,000 i'm still at the broad end of the spectrum. But i take really good care of the car if i as much as suspect something doesn't sound right bam it gets fixed. Thankfully haven't had too many problems though i did lose a starter once awhile back $600 but i think that was because i went to the dealer. If i had gone to a junkyard or something and gotten one and had them or someone else put it in it may have been cheaper, but probably wouldn't have lasted that long.

both my 99 Cavalier (2200 OHV) and 96 Sunfire (2.2l OHV) have right around 180k miles on them and are both still going strong. Bought the Cavalier with 114k miles and the Sunfire with 148k miles. Cavalier had the Head Gasket, Power Steering Pump, Thermostat, & Fan Relay Switch replaced shortly after I bought it. Sunfire just had the Water Pump replaced. Other then that it's just been regular maintenance.

1998 2.2L OHV
189,000 mi - no major issues - tore out a perfectly good motor for a turbo build
used Mobil 1 Synthetic - no cam wear, bearings were not bad at all, great fuel mileage and compression.

Issues:
Water pump - 180k mi
TPS: don't remember about 100k mi

Rebuilt my 195 Amp alternator

Routine maintenance - serpentine belt - fluids - brakes - plugs & wires - coil packs - battery
