Gas Mileage with Ecotec and Auto Trans

What type of gas mileage are you guys getting who own Ecotecs with the auto trans?

I have my son in a 230,000 mile 94 Bonneville, which gets about 16 in town with his foot in the gas. It will get 28-30 on the highway at 85 mph, but all his driving is almost in town.

I have a 2000 Sunfire SE with a 2.2 and 4sp auto trans my wife drives, gets about 22 in town.

The gas is killing him working part time in school.

But there are a few things I will not have in my driveway or garage-Fords or Imports

So I'm thinking about helping him out by looking for a used Ecotec Cavalier 4dr .

i average about 28 to 34 35 or so highway about 31 to 33, for some reason my highway mileage drops a bit from the top end spectrum of in town driving probably because my engine tends to bog on hills especially if the incline is steep uphill. 04 cavalier Ls Sedan 2.2 eco 4 speed auto approximately 103,000 miles

lol, serious question-why no fords or imports?like i know some ppl love their cars but thats no reason to push everything out of the picture, just cuz u like urs doesnt mean toyotas or mustangs suck. cav's rnt the best small cars for mileage, if ur looking for fuel mileage itsself, and not perforamce or anything else, look into a civic, or a mazda or something, i was highly letdown when i went thru my first tank in 500 kms.

I've seen as high as 34 doing all highway driving on long trips and as low as 19 in town during the winter months. On average I would say right about 25 or 26. I read somewhere that vw is making a diesel hybrid that gets 69.9 mpg, I'll believe it when I see it though.
