Hey my Ecotec is throwing code P0440. anyone know the main cause of this?? its Evap emmision Control System I have already changed the gas cap and cleared the code off but a couple days later it came back on.
could it be the Charcole canister??? any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
guys
There have probably been 100 threads on this. If you had looked im sure you would have read about the wires to the EVAP vent valve. Start there.
i actually did look and only one thread pops up for 95-99s
Did you look in the maintance forum. I get this code from time to time. I have yet to replace anything. From what I have read on it. Can be that little black box in the rear (not the Charcole canister), but what the wires for it plug into. There is a nice post on this in the maintance forum.

parts are all the same, just in different locations.

95-98 is one style and 99-05 is the other style. I know I have seen this same damn post to many times. I figured it was common knowledge by now.
really? they all have charcoal canisters, purge valves, vent valves, vacuum lines, and a tank pressure sensor... hence same parts in different locations

The parts changed a little through the years. They do the same function but are not all interchangeable between years. Old style does not have all the issues that the new style has.
I had that same code thrown..
Theres a vacuumed line running from the top of the intake manifold going to the evap fuel like thing.. its a plastic hose thing with plastic clamp fittings on either end.. i just disconnected either end of that and made it so it sealed up beter with some teflon tape and it cleared the code.. (unfortunatley i did that after I spent $200 in the shop were they had no idea how it fix it)
And then recently i installed a new header and bumped the part sticking out of the intake manifold to were it almost broke off.. so i superglued the s*it out of it so it sealed up again.. and replaced the plastic hose with some silicone hose i dident use from my intake... worked like a charm

The 2.4 does not have the same part he is referring to. On the 2.4 it is usually the gas cap, or the $30 oart in the rear by the canister.

easiest way to find out whats wrong is to go to a shop that can preform an evap system smoke test. this is an issue you can just keep throwing money at and not fix it.
