ok on the 97 cavalier 2.2 3 speed auto the check engine light is on permanently regardless of what you do
did replace the 02 sensor
new secondary wires
is a bit of a roughness in the idle
and it idles at a bit slow of an rpm
otherwise it runs great and strong and everything
the trans converter has been weak for a long time in the thing, to where i know that the engine has been strained hard for a long time to get the car moving from a dead stop due to the converter not doing its job very well for who knows how long
160k miles
what is recommended that we do here ?
should i try cleaning out the EGR valve or IAC valve ?
or is it something more/different probably ?
thanks

Have you ever had it scanned to see what the code actually read instead of throwing parts at it. Also have you tried removing the code with a scanner as well?

The code isnt there permantly. Get a code reader, read the code, fix the problem, and clear the code.
There are a couple hundred possible codes that could turn on that light.... might be a leaking gas cap, it might even be a misfire. You'll never know til you get the code scanned.
well mr wabbit, you gotta find out what the code is. as stated by others. And you have to be able to clear it after you fix the problem. There is no way around it.
