I could really use a little help with my swap. I have a 3400 out of a 00 grand am going into a 1997 LN2 (w/ th125) cavalier. I have the entire engine harness from the 00 grand am. What do you think will be my best bet as far as wiring? Would it be easier to use an entire grand am wiring harness w/ cluster? I'm no stranger to fiberglasss and wouldn't mind modding the dash for it to fit. But is there an easier way? Something I'm not thinking about? I will be buyin HPT w/ my rebate check in April, so it's not a big deal to tune it. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated as I'm kinda at a standstill until I figure out which direction I'm gonna go with the wiring.

depends
if you have to go through emissions, you have to do OBD2
If not, standalone works too.
If I had to do it again, I'd go standalone, but since the emissions laws in my area is uncertain, best to be safe than sorry.
If you have the money to go standalone lol... Im perfectly satisfied with using the 2.2 harness and mating it to the 3400 harness. Thanks to you (Kardain) and others for all the help.
My car runs great. I have no complaints with it at all.
3400 SWAP DONE. 187WHP 212TQ (NA) 240WHP 310TQ (N2O)
In my case, the standalone was actually less expensive than buying HPTuners.
Also, if you're using a Megasquirt or other standalone like I am, you can use your 3spd transmission since it's not electronically controlled. With the Grand Am harness you'll have to use a 4spd transmission, or have HPTuners (or know someone with it and pay for credits most likely) and delete the auto tranny codes.
I do have emissions here in the dfw area. So, I need to keep the obd2 operational.

Quicklilcav suggested using the 2000 Regal 3100 entire harness w/ cluster. What do you think about that?

im shure your all tired of awnsering the same old questions but i got a 99 z24 5spd and want to do a 3400 swap wat would be the best parts to make the swap as easy as possible. i read someone used a upper mouter mount from a 94-97 grand am harness and ecu from a 94-95 camaro/ firebird and custom dog bone i know i will need alot more other parts but would these parts allow me to retain my gauges. i have the skills to splice the harnesses but want to do as little cutting as posible any advice would be appreachated
I don't want to start a war or nothing, but IMO, you are better off with a DOHC swap rather than a six.
3400, and 3100 are prone to lower intake gasket failure, and furthermore, a four with mods in our platform makes more power.
By the time you get a V6 in there, and get it working, you could supercharge an eco with GMPP for comparable money with less work (assuming you did not get the V6 for free).
On the other hand, nothin wrong with it at all, depends on what you are going for.
My goal is power without problems, or less problems.
Thant for the advise ive heard the problems with 3.4 before but my moter is non Eco and way would b cooler than a 6 cylinder cavalier

I fail to see how you come to that conclusion.
Intake gasket failure happens but like mentioned, it's not a difficult repair. Easily avoided by replacing them before installing the engine, and not running dexcool.
As far as money. I've got right around 1000 into my engine and standalone and mounts and all. Intake, exhaust, UDP and a good tune can put the 3400 up to pushing 190-200whp. At last I looked, the GMPP blower cost close to twice as much. Not to mention the need for the person to swap to an ECO, plus all the wiring throughout the car.
I mean, if the car already has the ECOTEC in it, it's probably best to just stick with that. But when going from something like the 2.2/2200 OHV engines to the 3400, it's really about the same amount of work in messing with the wiring and all. And you'll come up with something no more/less reliable.
