I have a 97 Cavalier RS 2.2 with the 3 speed auto and i want to know whats needed for the swap. ECU?, Wiring?, Mounts?, Transmission?, ex . . .
I miss my Cavalier, even if it made 100 hp on a cold day and had more suspension then it deserved.
Well.. I could tell you to search (because you'd find the answer you're looking for in a lot more detail...) but instead I'll give you the quick run-down..
You'll need the transmission for the 2.3L Quad 4... because the bellhousing is different from the 2.2L engine...
You'll definitely need the engine bay wiring and PCM..
I think the mounts are the same on the engine side... maybe the top is different, not really sure there... the bottom is the same tho. The bracket on the bottom of the engine/oil pan is different tho. The trans mount is the same IF you stay with an automatic. I don't think there was ever a 3 speed on a 2.3L/2.4L.. so you'll need the shifter assembly too if you ever want to shift into 1st gear (why, I don't know..).
If you swap to a 5 speed, you need to weld in brackets to mount the transmission mounts. And grab the axles too.. in fact, you might need them between 3 and 4 speed transmissions too (I don't actually know..)
95 was a OBD1 engine... so the wiring is different from the 96+ cars which were OBD2.
thanks, hopefully i can do this swap before school starts. any info helps me get closer to that goal
random though, wtf is with smiles
