2.3 quad-4 from grand am

I went to a local salvage yard and found a Grand Am with to 2.3 Quad-4 and 3-speed auto and i wanted to know if i could use this for a swap and what i need off the grand am. my cavalier is a 97 rs with the 2.2 OHV and three speed auto

I miss my Cavalier, even if it made 100 hp on a cold day and had more suspension then it deserved.

u CAN use it..question is do you really WANT to...for one since it came with an auto that tells me it was an LO quad4..so your looking at about 155hp...about the same as a 2.4 tc ..and i dont believe your tranny will work with it either...if you looking for quads to swap in you want theHO or w41 versions...check the vin on the vehicle ..the 8th digit will be an A . and most likely say High Output on the cover of the engine..also HOs only came from the factory with 5speed trannys

I feel dumb.

one thing in my defense, the car has the Quad-4 engine cover and i just assumed it was a Quad-4.

thanks for the info.

what do you call "alot of work"??
yes it will fit..yes most of it will bolt up..IF you have a 5speed it will bolt right up to your existing transmission and even your existing engine mounts..its pretty much a drop in swap..only small things need modified..for instance..your not going to be able to use your existing alternator...a 95Z alt works best but if you can get the alt with the engine i believe youll have to wire in the harness that plugs into it...and the EASIEST way to make this engine run in Your car is to snag the pcm and engine bay wiring harness from a 95Z of GT ...if you can get that then it will make hooking the quad up basically plug and play..the engine bay harness and pcm is compatible with everything else in your car and will run the engine fine in stock form..you just need to make sure you get EVERY thing that comes with the engine.....but you cant use the 90 tranny ..so dont waste your time taking it
