I am having problems with mine. I put in a brand new sensor and it giving me a code of low input to speed sensor so i do need some help with this.
ive never seen our speed sensors go out..clusters go out all the time
is the sensor AC Delco, is the wiring good, connector good,

No the sensor is not ac delco and the wiring and connector are good
When it comes to sensors and such, best to use OEM parts, thats where I'd start

Are they i still learnin all this stuff with sensors and what not
hes right...if you replace a sensor use AC Delco ONLY ..alot of times just the brand of the sensor can cause things to send mixed signals and screw things up
Ok now i know what to look at

Is that an auto 3 speed? If so does it not want to shift ? I have had 2 tranny's in my wifes 98, both had the plastic speedo gear spin on the output shaft.
Pull the sensor, speedo gear set out, put your finger in the hole and try to spin the gear inside. I dont know why I had the problem , I just thought that it was a freak thing. It had a code and a mil on but I dont remember what the code was. that was 6 years ago.

oh, then the gear isnt the problem.
just be double sure the wires didnt get pinched in the bell housing. I would get a wiring schematic and an ohm meter, then probe the ends of the wires to be 100% sure. most of the time the sensors that I install work at least a couple of months, im talking about the cheap ones. I havent put one in and it didnt work at all at first. Actually im not talking about just cav speedo sensors cause I havent changed any of them, im talking about other gm products like the G20 conversion vans and full size trucks from back in the 90's. On these newer cars I find at least 50% of the time its a wiring issue, either pinched, corroded or worn through from rubbing.

I well definitly do that this weekend i got the wiring schematic in my repair manual i have

I have heard of the clusters themselves going out, but i have also heard of stuff like sticky needles not just the speedo but any of the gauges. But i have a question, why is it that unlike most cars if the speedo needle sticks way up there like 40 45 55 60 etc and you back up the needle drops back to 5 or 0 and stays there till you start going forward again. On our cars if the needle sticks way up there and you back up the needle just goes even higher, not sure if it may have something to do with the fact that our clusters have gauges that are supposed to automatically zero out when you restart the car or not just a thought.
