k guys i've searched all over this site on how to replace it, so don't tell me to seach haha, but i was wondering if anyone knows how to replcae one? i just bought a 96 cav 4 door with the 2.2L, i'm also going to give it a lil tune up when i do replace the head gasket, so i'm going to need...
headgasket
new spark plugs
new head bolts
gm Dexcool coolent
pcv valve
fuel filter
air filter
is there anything else? any help would be great thanks guys!!
get the head gasket set instead of just the head gasket. it comes with everything you need to do the job. good call on the bolts, they are a torque to yield, which means you can only use them once. do a complete cooling system fluch, and now is the best time to step away from dex cool. while you're there, get two cans of throttle body cleaner, and go to town on the iac, tb, and intake runners, as well as the intake ports.
as for how: get teh haynes manual. cant beat the walkthrough in there.

oh there's a walk though in the haynes manual? SICK! and i've got a heated garage EVEN BETTER!!! well i've just gotta push my little project out of there 1st haha this is gonna be a fun little project
thanks for your help bud!
torque wrench. foot pounds on the head bolts, follow the torque specs/ sequence.
If you dont have one, get one, or else dont attempt it without.
While it off..... Make sure you have the head pressure tested for cracks and checked for warpage, On the 2.2's if its overheating its more than likely cracked between the valves and/or through the spark plug holes. The center cylinders would be the first place to look. If you just have antifreeze weeping from the front corner of the head then you can just swap out the gasket.
Yep If you havent done one before , buy or borrow the book.

ok so i have done this on my 96 2.2 and its really easy with the right tools. Watch for the vacume lines!!! and When you take the rockers off keep them in the correct order thats a must, and when you put them back on you tightin them down its 22ft lbs i think i know its 22 it might be inch lbs to but when you tightin them down start on side and move to the other side dont tightin them down all at once cause you have hydraulic lifters they have to bleed out so you don't bend a valve like it did. so take your time on this so you don't bend it!!!! Have fun
Good luck!!
darren and i have been stepping him through it
rockers are 22 ft lbs but jeff if you need specs i got the GM service information i got all the specs here just message me with what you need
