Well im new to this site and i have just finished a 3800 swap into a 98 cavalier the 3800 was out of a 94 buick regal although the car had to be swapped to obd1 it had to be done because well the motor was free and thats always the right price but the memcal chip had to be re programed at sinister performance LLC. also the car was left an automatic to keep the cost down and i had a trans out of a 94 lumina that didnt need any computer programs to run but at this point i have under 200$ into the swap but im accually ahead by 100$ after selling to 2200 but what im looking for right now is any upgrades that are cheap and the motor is naturaly assperated if anyone can help let me know and if anyone needs any help with a swap
Is this a street car? Because I'm pretty sure you can't legally switch from OBD II to OBD I and get away with it. But congrats on the swap, $200 is not bad at all!
As for mods, why go cheap? Use all the money you saved on the swap and turbo that sucker
BTW, welcome to the site
where i live emissions is not a problem at all and the reason i wanna go cheap is because this is accually a promo car for a custom shop i plan to start
Ah well, in that case...
Header, full exhaust, underdrive pulleys, motor mounts, etc
Is that the naturally aspirated 3800? Or the supercharged version?
Just curious what transmission you're running, and what axles you used.
its naturaly aspirated im running a turbo 125c or somthing it was free so if it goes bad ill go to a 5 speed and with that i was able to use the stock axles
any pics

i plan on upgrading to a series 2 3800 but im gonna wait till the price is right and i found that you can use the series 1 ecm and harness with a few changes so i figured when i find one witht the right price ill change it
one thing i need help with is the fuel pump it runs on the 2200 pump but it doesnt run like it should does anyone know what pump to use that i can get cheap
I have a 3400 which is pushing more power than that 3800 is, and it runs fine with the stock pump. If it's not running right, it is probably a bad fuel pump, or something else causing it not not run right. Actually my fuel pump is enough to push the AFR to 10.5:1. So, it's got some room.
im going to change the fuel pump tomarow night ive got another stock cav pump ill see if that helps i hope it will it will save me alot of hassle can anyone help on where to drill for a temp gauge on the intake?
well as i was pulling the tank to change the fuel pump i went to unplug the wires and the ground can off the car so i fixed the wired and now it runs great thanks for the pump info shooff
my 3800 SC doesn't like my pump i got 388000km on mine so its goona be comning out when i get a 96 sending unit and a plastic tank either a blacker pump on it our the GTP pump on it have not decided

Dont quote me but im pretty sure they run the same pump, or thats what i hear. I put a supercharged 3800 in my sunfire and am still running it with the stock 2.4 pump and it runs fine! I went to get the GTP pump and they said it was the same as the one i have so i would say you shouldn't have a prob..
the cavalier pump doesn't pump enough continois as the blazer or GTP pump
cavalier pump is the same as the grand am pump so swappin a 3400 is no issue on a series 1 a cavalier pump can supply it
i have a rusty tank and my gauge reads 0ohms empty and 90 full so since it doesn't match my sender 940E and 250F i'm swappin to the 00+ tank, 96 sending unit (got it now) and a blazer pump to solve any issues
have you changed the plugs in it yet???? i put autolite 103s in my 3800SC and gapped them at 55 insted of 60 might drop them down to 52 or 50 see if that helps me a little more fine seems to go wonky at 5000-5500rpm

wel im going to put 5 speed in now since the auto trans dont work well but i need to know the thickness the flywheel needs to be turned to(using camaro flywheel)
.84" if your using the cavalier tranny which i suspect you are
you will be removing a BUNCH of material its .84" from the crank side of the flywheel to where the clutch disc surface
you will also need to get 8 grade 8 or stonger bolts to put it on as the auto bolts are too short you bolts should be the same thread size and diameter but you need 1" long think autos are 3/4" long they wont work
if you wanna be a ginuea pig do the G6 6spd i could use some of the infor for the future i don't have much on it tho

Not a Series 2 3800 = sadness
.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
i already have the 5 speed trans and the gear seperation in the 6 speed isnt very impresive so i just have it removed from the where the clutch mating surface is right?
the series 2 3800 is in the works but the series 1 was cheap but i have a series 2 that needs a new crank so that will go in next year i think
yeah it gets machined off the clutch surface but the total distance has to be .84" FROM the clutch surface to the back of the flywheel where it mounts to the crank shaft
basicly put it on a table it should be .84 from the table to the clutch surface another way to look at it
think the camro size is 1.14" and you have to go to .84 so you tacking a good chunk off make sure your machine shop guy knows cause they usually don't machine that far
