Just for background my car is a 1999 Sunfire 2200 4 speed auto with 114500 miles on it. I run premium. the plugs and wires were allegedly replaced by previous owner before it was bought. I don't really abuse the car. All fluids are up to date and changed at proper intervals. Air filter is good. Ok that will probably help a bit. So my cars had this stumble when I go from a stop. When i hit the gas it feels like there is a huge delay. It almost feels like its going to stall. Any idea? It starts like crap. I need to generally crank it 3 times before it turns over sometimes I have to pump the gas or hold it to the floor to get it going. Any more idea? Finally, I've been noticing a slight ticking in the motor after it runs for a bit. One of my friends says it could be a slight miss because of a bad plug or wire. Any more ideas? I just want to get her running right.
since your profile says you purchased the car in july 07 I would change the plugs and wires first. it would be at least a good start

Primer Counts as Custom Paint Right?
BTW: This is my Sig.
Something that really helped out my 97 2.2OHV (95,000 miles) lately was a
Seafoam Treatment. It resolved a ticking I was having in the top end after the engine warmed up (which must have been a sticking valve). Smoother idling, better response, faster starting. I'm waiting to see if it helps economy.
It's not completely without risk, since there are reports of it fouling plugs and trouble with older engines by cleaning crud that was helping things stay sealed.

i always check, and usually change the fuel filter when i get someones used car, too many people never change them. and plugs and wires are good place to start too.

I think that only makes a difference if your car is carbureted and not fuel injected
its funny you say that you have to pump that gas but that is the only way my 98 2200 would start and it would crank forever somtimesand somtime if i held it to the floor it would pop right off odd i know but true
I think I read that holding the pedal down in our cars forces the ECM into a "flood clearing" mode and resets some things to default values. So, basically having to do it every time is a sign that something isn't right.

yeah i know i got so fed up with it i did a 3800 swap
right, if it is in flood clear mode.....it flooding.
Check the vacuum connection at the FPR, make sure it is attached properly there, and at the throttle body, also pull the hose off and smell it. Does it smell like gas? If so.....you need a new FPR.
I wasn't saying I had to do that every single time. I just resort to it after about 5 cranks. I dont like to rev my motor that high right after the start and probably a stupid question. I just haven't had a lot of work time under my cars hood. Wheres the FPR?
Oh ya and I'm going to try Seafoam out probably tomorrow or Friday. So crossing my fingers that it helps.

on yours i think it would be on the driver's side of the fuel rail
first things first..to me sounds like a plugged fuel filter...do that first...then try it..then get plugs and wires..that should fix your problems...if your having to "pump" it then its lacking fuel to start a good sign the filter is plugged..phil
I have one I was attempting to change the other week. Me and two friends spent 30 min apiece trying to get it off and I had to give up cause I had to get home and I havent had the time since. Thats what I was thinking was the problem. Maybe Ill work on it this weekend cause I have the time.
its very very easy to change the filter... use a small open end wrench on the plastic clip and push the filter towards it.itll pop off
i have the same problem!
i used sea foam in the oil.
poured the whole bottle in there, drove it around for maybe 500 miles. then did oil change.
just wanted to clean the engine out real good.
help resonse and eveything for a bit. nothin else was wrong with engine.
now that i changed the oil tho, its got a tick on the drivers side top engine.
i think a valve sticking.
timing is on the passenger side of the car by the serpentine belt, right?
so cant be timing. ...also last week my serpentine just fell off! WTF!
so i got a new one. GoodYear GatorBack. whut THAT has do do with anything IDK.
but if u find out whut fixes yur car, lemme know through PM or something! because my car doin the same stuff!!!!
almost seems to just be a 2200 thing i have the same issues. i found that switching back regular help. thats about all that i have found
