I have tried the search but can/t find the an answer. I'm working on a 98 2.2 auto with a spun bearing, I can get a cheap running 2.2 auto out of a 02. Will just the engine bolt in using the 98 sensors/ intake/exhaust or or will I have to use the 02 engine. trans, wiring and pcm? whats the difference betwwen the pre 98s and the 98 up? thanks
i have a 99 motor in my 2000 sunfire and everything was the same. And as far as i know 98 to 02 the motors all the same. So yes it will work and if you find that one of sensors might be different just switch them.
Will it wor? Yes. Some things might be slightly different. Injectors might be different, 98 has EGR, 99+ does not, but it can be done, not hard.

Not all the same. 98 had EGR others did not. They also changed the head 99 taking out the EGR passages. I know this because I have a 99+ head in my garage I got for free. I was going to do a pnp on it but I can't install it without HPT because I can't use the EGR on it. Some 99s models came with engines built in 98. So some 99s have EGRs too. But GMs parts database shows different heads starting in 99.

Don't let the punks get to you. If they can't say anything helpful its because they probably
have VERY LITTLE IF ANY MECHANICAL SKILLS . Talking crap is just their way of hiding that
fact. They figure the more crap they say the less likley anyone will know how dumb they are.
