blown head gasket, swap time?

my 2200 in my 98 cavalier either has a bad headgasket or cracked, had 116,000 miles on it, i put in a brand new cluch 1000 miles ago, i did every clutch part new.

price wise i am tempted to go looking for a 3400 to swap in, i just am not sure how soon i can find a good donor, so i may have to just fix the old engine for now.

Leaking lower intake manifold gaskets plagued the 3400 and 3100 causing water to get in the oil. Unless he has done a compression test the headgasket(s) may not be blown. Although by the time you get the lower intake off the rockers and pushrods are out as well so no harm in changing headgaskets.

Herculesinwyoming the cost of replacing the headgasket isn't that much if doing the job yourself so no need to rush a motor swap unless a good engine and everything needed are readily available.

two reasons, head repacement is alot easier, and second, i only found 2 cars at the local junk yard with 3.4's and one had the heads taken off and the cylender bores wer rusting bad, the other one had been hauled in because the engine was " beyond repair"
next closest yard is 60 miles away, small towns make for hard to find used car parts.

being winter is pretty much here in wyoming, i think i would rather do a swap in summer, my garage has no heat, and todays high was 30 degrees.

Remind me not to move to Wyoming ! I'll stay in tropical PA, supposed to be the 80's Monday. Don't need heat in the garage yet.
