Hi, I'm new here, so hello everyone!

I'm interested in buying a 2000 z24, and the one i'm looking at is otherwise good except it needs head work. I was wondering if the 2000 heads are the same as the post 2000 2.4L heads. In other words is it possible to grab a head off say a 97 Z24 and pop it on this one? Thanks in ahead guys!

those should all be the same.

No, they are not all the same, but I'm not sure if you can use any from 96-02 on any 96-02 block.
96-98 *Head Casting number is 683-18
99-02 *Head casting number is 779

I currently have a 97 head on a 02 block. It has a slightly smaller combustion chamber than the 99.5+ head. The newer head is actualy the only replacement head available for the 2.4 (at least as of 07 when I was still in a dealer).

there are a few differences...

1.) if you look at the exhaust side of the head, the newer one's surface is completely flat across the flange area for the manifold, the older has rectangular cutout's in the flange area between each port.

2.) the exhaust ports on the newer head have a slash angle protrusion INTO one corner of each port (basically, they are smaller then the older head's ports but not by much).

3.) the older head's have a triangular protrusion into the combustion chamber that increases compression, the newer head simple does not have this.

those are the three differences i noticed, im sure there are others though... there's a pic somewhere around here floating around of the two side by side...

Coolant passages are slightly larger and of different shape on the newer head also.

i got a 99 2.4 head sitting here with cam towers idf you want it PM me with what you thing is fair. it will have to be shipped
