... and it's a pain in the arse.

I basically converted my Cavalier into a smaller, lighter, convertible Park Avenue... using the Park Ave cluster, PCM, BCM, fuse panel, etc... I've had few problems... but there are a few glitches I can't figure out (like the tire pressure monitoring system), and I have no airbags...

Not to thread jack, but I didn't know you did that during your build. I'd like to see that. Got any pics of it in?

I was thinking of trying to fit a 2000 Regal cluster, as it's close to the J-body shape and size, but I'm not familiar with the PA one.

What would it cost? cause i'm on the fiero forum and there are a couple of guys that make perfect kit (for the fiero) to plug into your C500

NO WAY

if we do that the entire boreds will get over saturated with 3800SC 3rd gens aswell someone that doesn't know how to wire can fawk it up

i wired my car, if you can't read a schematic then your lost, you have to trace the wires back and know which ones to add back in

shouldn't have any problems as for runnign the engine unless you send him the interior harness too you will have to wire the gauges yourself as with the 3800 the factory gauges DO NOT WORK except speed and fuel

think you also have to relocated the EVAP too for your car darren would have a better idea seeing as his is a 96 i didn't have to for mine but thats cause its a 99

you have the goot fuel sender tho its a 0 ohms empty and 90 full so that guage is about 80 bucks cheaper then the other ones when you switch to an autometer setup

yeah i have every idiot light on in my car i havent gotten to pulling the bulbs out yet

Re: 3800 wiring harness?

You can keep the Z cluster, but there wouldnt be much point to it. The only gauges that would work are fuel and speedo. Plus all the idiot lights would be on.
As for relocating the evap canister, not really neccesary. I had to because mine is turbo and my charge pipes run where the canister normally is.
My suggestion would be to run all after market gauges, thats what Im doing, so is Matt.

that sounds fair so can you post some pics of your cluster on here so i can see how you did it? thanks

i don't have a pick of my guages yet why i haven't taken one i have no clue

the W body gauges are bigger and still require a TONNE of wiring unless you switch the harnesses like lenko did (basicly has a mini park ave)

i gutted my guages and drilled the holes for my gauges in the stock opening i got a (2 1/16") VOLT, WATER TEMP on the left then a (3 3/8") SPEEDO, TACH in the middle and a (2 1/16") Boost and Fule Level on the right

i'm gonna be fibreglassin the stock bezel one of these days to make it look cleaner

Not to thread jack, but how about in a 2001 z24? would it have to run aftermarket gauges? Or can it stay with the stock cluster and have the gauges work?

99% sure they wont work i think its only the 3400 that will on the 2000+

darren care to confirm this

ok from what ive been looking up im thinking that if you went with a series3 3800 in a 2000+ cav that gauges might work im not for sure somone might have researched it beter than me but that data link seems to run the same i think idk worth a shot to try if somone is going to do a 3800 swap try a series3

O well already bought my 3800s/c series 2. Guess that will be for someone else to try.
Re: 3800 wiring harness?

the wiring on the 2000 j bodies is GMs newer style wiring and the series 3 is basicly the RE-vamped grand prix it might work but keep in mind the series 3 doesn't use a return fuel line and the series 3 is also a throttle by wire systme not cable NOT a big deal

at this point with the people that have done it its still easier to do a series 2 and do aftermarket gauges the wiring on the gauges is so easy anyone can do it

could you not modify the series 3 to be cable instead of wire? and, is there any chance of using a series 2 plenum on it?

Re: 3800 wiring harness?

The Series 3 is a Series 2 motor, essentially, with different push rods, a Gen V blower, and drive-by-wire TB. Guys put the Gen V blower on the Series 2 motor all the time, with an adapter plate for the TB... So yeah, you can swap stuff over.

There's 40 hp and 40 tq to be gained with the Gen 3 stuff.. before mods, that is

The reason I'd want a Series 3... paddle shifters!!
