ok last night i got in my cav (98 z24 manual) to leave my friends house and it wouldn't start. everything works but the starter wouldn't engauge. the battery wasn't dead so we tried to jump over the starter wires..no luck, i checked everything i could thing i could think of, fuses relays connections, everything was fine. so we push started it and i made it home with no problems. just for s and g i tried when i got home and she fired right up just fine. is my starter just going bad or is it somthing more serious? its done this once before, right before it popped a head gasket, hydrolocked and bent the no. 4 rod. (hopfully not related) i just spent over a grand on this damn rebuild.
ps i was doin some welding on the exhaust yesterday, i unhooked both battery cables though.
please help
Check all of your battery cable connections, including the ones that go to the starter and alternator.
Could be your clutch pedal safety switch going bad, the starter, or loose battery wires. If you want to find out whats causing it you have to be able to diagnose it when it happens. Buy yourself a test light and a wiring diagram of the starting circuit, throw them in the car and drive it.
