I need help, got stuck in the rain just now...
2000 cavi 2.2
started the car let it warm up to about 1/4
5 minutes later i lost power steering, had to manhandle the wheel to turn
the dex-cool coolant boiled out, and began to overheat
battery signal on dash, and headlights dimmed a bit.
I think its the alternator. but would a bad alt affect the power steering and coolant???
please help, thanks
then you should have power steering and your water pump spinning. the alt has either broken your belt, or something else has happened.

maybe your belt is broke andit is just sitting there
ok your alternator or somthing locked up the motor kept turning the belt was staying still but the crank pulley kept going and burned the belt in half thats my guess
or the tensioner's done for. not enough tension = belt doesnt grab = alt doesnt turn, nor do power steering or water pump.

yup./......any of those, but the belt isnt spinning the accessories.
the flux capacitor, kanuder valve, exhaust belt, rotator splint could be any of them
did you check to see if the blinker fluid was low too? normally if that happens the fluid levels are down.
thats funny my exhaust oil level was low and my car stopped smoking the otherday

Hmmmm a few months ago my exhaust manifold lubrication injector started working. My muffler bearing stopped making noise but I sure do have a lot of smoke while I let the car run.
The belt drives your PS, WP, and alternator. If any of the pulleys is off or locks up the belt could break or jump off. If this happens you will loose PS. WP, and the alternator output.
completely unrelated, maybe not but if it was the alternator wouldn't it be making a squealing noise. Say for example the bearings in the alternator were bad, Just asking here.

thats not always how it happens but yes possible not always the case though
sometimes they go strait to siezing up. seen it way too many times. and it's not always the bearings that go first too. sometimes it's either the stator or the regulator.
i changed one that the case accually melted and locked it up
I repair them and starters as my job with my dad, lol.
ok here is the news.
Belt def not moving, and is loose abit . its a pain the the ass to get to the tensioner so I had to buy a long tool.
Just to mention the belt is not broken or look damaged, so i am wondering if it is even the belt or something else like the tensioner.
ordered a new NAPA belt
oh great thought maybe the three crank pulley bolts fell out and the main center bolt is holding it and its spinning on it

If the belt isn't moving while the engine is running, that's why you have all these troubles. And by no means should it be loose... EVER!
Also, if the tensioner is jumpy while the engine is running with the new belt... it's time to replace it too. That's if it's really shakin'! If it's not that jumpy & you here a slight squeal coming from it, it's just the pulley needing replacement. And give that alternator a frehand spin while the belt's off, just to see if it's making noise or not turing freely. If it isn't, replace that too.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
