Problem with a 2000 Sunfire
Friday, November 14, 2008 9:58 AM
I have a 2000 Sunfire, 2.2L Auto. It is making a weird droning sound between 20-70KPH. I was thinking Transmission problems but Im not sure. Has anyone had similar problems. Any ideas.

Droning... wheel bearing?

Does it go away if you're making a left (or right) turn? And get louder if you make a right? (or left?)

At first I thought it was the trans but now I'm leaning more towards Wheel bearing. It's my wifes car so i don't drive it much. I took it out today and the noise doesn't change it just gets louder as you go faster. It changes when you turn the steering wheel. I have to jack it up and see what's going on. I haven't had time to do anything.

if you turn the wheel to the right and the noise gets louder then change the left bearing, the same if you turn the wheel to the left , then its the right bearing. Often times it will not make noise if there is no weight on it, IE jacked up spinning.
