I live in upstate NY (about 30 miles from canadian border off I-81...stationed at Fort Drum) and its really FARKING cold here. every car i have had up here till The civic and the cavi have had a remote starter. I know i can get one installed for $200 ish, and im fine with spending that money. My question is, how do these cars starters take to such a mod? A friend of mine has a 2000 Mitsu Mirage and his starter went a year after installation of the remote starter. I know its not the same car so...thoughts?
PS, i have a 1996 Cavi coupe, 2.2L OHV Auto.

No different than turning a key-switch to energize it.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
So I have a question about a remote start on a stick. How does that work if you have parked it and left it in gear?
The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig

As you might expect, it would be locked out unless the car is in neutral with e-brake. The extra complexity is why installing remote start on manuals more expensive.

it goes forward. or reverse if you backed into your spot. moral of the story: leave it out of gear to use your remote start.

Mine is an AstroStart and is made for a manual. MIne was almost 500 to have installed. I got the long range 2 way remotes so that adds a little. It was actually the very first mod I did to my car and was well worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
On my car you have to go through a sequence to SET the remote start. Part of it is that the E-brake must be up as well as it in nuetral-it won't set otherwise. When installed properly they are safe and a well worth it mod.

Yea I see they are well worth it and like any mod when done right are well worth it. I was just curious about it being in gear. LOL I really knew it wouldn't work. Good for me I am not using getting rid of the 40t40E for a while.

go with compustar ! they have the best radius (almost 2 km with no obsticles), very reliable and easy to operate. i had mine for about 8 months now and didn't have the slightest problem. the only strange thing that happened was that the siren would only work half of the times. but now it got back to normal, almost as if it healed itself.
i have a remote start installed on my car. i have not done my swap yet, but will probably not be hooking up the clutch safety switch, and will have to remember to leave it in neutral when parked. this system is made for an auto and i installed it myself, with no intention of modding this car. that was 5 months ago, and alot has changed. you have an auto, but be sure you wont change that before doing this.
Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
i have zero intention of modding. If the auto trans ever goes, the only mod ill do besides tint is a 5spd swap. Hopefully the auto still has alot of life left in her.
