Ok, so im asking this for my roommate. His cluster likes to tell him things that really aren't happening, such as moving 45mph, when we are sitting still in a parking lot. Also, the fuel gauge doesn't seem to be reading correctly. Sometimes, it was reading around 1/2 tank, others 1/4, or even Full, and we just pulled away from the gas station. Does this seem like a bad cluster, or something a tad more serious? If its the cluster, how hard is the swap?
Car is a 2003 Cavalier 2.2l, around 80k miles on it, give or take a bit. 5spd as well.
If you need more info, let me know.

I would say more than likely the cluster is bad, as for how hard the swap is you can do a search and see what you come up with. I know people on here have done the swap a time or two so they can probably tell you as well.
All 00+ clusters are plug and play. That simple, just plug it in and go.
I have a zero mile 02 Cavalier cluster...if you want it.

Note, to OP that this only matters becuse it is new and hasn't ever been used. The mileage of your car is saved on the BCM, so when you plug in the cluster it will show the correct mileage of your car.

Could also be a bad ground connection somewhere... the usual suspects are the ground at the battery tray, and just below the tray on the frame rail. A leaky battery (common with stock Delco's) can wreck this connection causing all sorts of electrical gremlins.

Hmm... could be why this issue is seemingly resolved to itself. Now, everything is working as normal. The battery is maybe a year old, was replaced once before.

Items that are grounded under the battery (G102)
windshield washer pump
horn
left fog lamp
right fog lamp
left front park turn lamp
right front park turn lamp
daytime running light resistor
turnsignal multifunction switch
body control module
brake fluid level switch
windshield wiper motor assembly
they all go directly to to the splice pack 102
ground 102
If I were you cut the splice pack off and solder them all to a single ring terminal, the splice pack is a piece of crap.
Info taken straight from a 2003 ground distribution diagram from Mitchell*online.
