Hey there, Just a quick question. Got a 2.4 97 Sunfire with a 4 spd auto. Tranny is gone. Reading in the library it says it is the same from 95-05. Does that mean exactly the same? Like i can put an 05 in my 97 with no problems? Just want to know before I track down a tranny.
Thanks very much.
Paul
It'll have to be a 2.4 transmission. Which will leave you limited to at the newest an 01 model.
It's a matter of trans bellhousing mating surface pattern. The Quad4 & Twin-Cam 2.4L (Both are really just the same engine, with a difference of bore & stoke between them) have pattern that's all it's own. Same with the Ecotecs. So if you want to yank & install a replacement, get one mated to the same engine as yours. You'll save yerself alotta headaches that way.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Yeah, but how often do you see that. Isn't the 2.4 in 02 only a Canada thing anyways?
^^^ No
From what I've been told (read)
2.4 was used in all sunfire GTs and cavalier Z24s in the first half of '02. (Not exactly sure on the date when it changed...)
Then Canadian Sunfire GT's got the Ecotec, and US Cavalier Z24s got Ecotec in the second half of the year.
US Sunfire GTs kept LD9's and Canadian Cavaliers kept LD9s throughout 02.
