hey everyone this is my 1st post in awhile so...anyway i was wondering if you guys might have a solution to this problem i was putting the body kit on my old cavalier and had problems with the factory bumper guard and reinforcer ( the metal part) i got rid of the factory pieces and put in two smaller metal bars. the reason was that the bumper the (SF bumper) was hitting the the guard and reinforcer so what should i have done remove the plastic guard or replacing it completely with smaller bars. Oh yeah same thing applies with the rear as well. thanks
what? the bumper?
are you saying you couldnt mount the kit because of the crush bumper under the factory bumper cover?
im confused a bit.
removing the plastic honey comb is ok, not recommended but ok. drill out the rivits or just pry the crap out of it till it comes off.
Now the steel impact bar that the honey comb attaches to is a different story. I would
NEVER recommend any one to remove it perminantly. That is a high strength spring steel alloy that is a crush zone for safety. for example, If for some reason that you get into a crash with a pole right up the middle of the car your toast. Without it, it would just shove the engine through the firewall. With it , it would pull in on both frame rails, collapsing in on the engine, squeezing it till then it shoves back evenly on the firewall. That simple piece of steel does more than just hold up the bumper cover.
So you can remove the honeycomb plastic but thats it, you just have to modify your new bumper cover to fit the impact bar.

All I did was trim the honeycomb with a sawzall until it fit properly. I probably took half of it off on the front and a little less on the rear. You're doin somethin wrong if you hit the impact bar, I'm speaking for a Buddy Club kit but you still shouldnt even be close to the impact bar.
thats what i was thinking he was saying
just hold the bumper up to it, see where it needs cut back. and sawzall it.
i removed about 1/2 of mine to get the type J to sit correctly.

thanks for that the bumper i had was a street fighter one from Andys auto sport (never buy anything there again) so what i did end up doing was that i got rid of the metal bar (bad choice) yeah it sounds like an idea i'll do that when i get my next cavalier. and by the way would bumper would you reconmend using to make it fit the steel bar?
I'm still lost as to how ur hittin the metal bar, pics?
Hopefully this helps, unless ur talkin bout the rear lol
mine was hitting both the metal bars I just took the plastic off and put it on fit perfect I have the drift rear and blitz front.
