Great milage
Monday, December 15, 2008 12:40 PM
Just drove from Michigan back to Chicago sunday afternoon, averaging about 80mph. Filled up right before I got on the highway in Michigan and about 10 miles after I got off the highway in Illinois. First fill up was at 161943 miles, second fillup was at 162106 miles, so a 163 mile difference. Filled all the way up at both stops. Put in 4.2 gallons at the second stop so that comes out to 38.8mpg on a 97 stick shift cavalier with a 2.2L. I think thats pretty darn impressive for an 11 year old car with 162k on it. Only mods are a K&N cone filter and a leaky exhaust at the flex pipe. Take that Prius.

97 Cavalier 2.2 5-speed, 88 Camaro IROC-Z 5.7 auto, 91 Firebird Formula 5.7 auto, 88 Conquest TSi 2.6T 5 speed, 93 Silverado ECSB 5.7 auto, 83 Mazda RX-7

I averaged 33.5 mpg in my 98 Z24 from Omaha to Denver. Not a 2.2 OHV but I thought that was pretty decent mileage for my LD9

My 2.2 always seemed to get better MPG if kept over about 83mph. Always thought that was weird.

your savings would be negated by the cost of whatever ticket you will get if you were in NY.

how can the gas mileage be so good on a car witha 3spd trans...at 75 the RPMS are at like 4000 or something (dont have a tach)? LOL it amazes me however if i want to get great FE, i hop in the civic. 42mpg avg hwy FTW!

Hmm. 3000 RPM in my 5-speed Z=80 MPH

I usually averaged 28-30 MPG going back and forth to Indy before the supercharger.

After boost I average 26-28 on the interstate
