3400 pcm and bcm???
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 2:49 PM
I am swapping a '01 3400 into my '01 sunfire, and I need to know if I need the bcm from the vehicle I'm pulling the motor from, for the guages to work in my sunfire.

in case you had troubles finding it. No you dont need the 3400 bcm. however your fuel gauge wont work either way. Look in the link that shooff left you for more detailed info.

sorry my bad , I assumed that he was going to use an auto trans. I shouldnt have jumped the gun on the gauge info for him. He just needs to read the sticky about that.

Can someone tell me if I need the BCM for my gauges to work and I have read the sticky that people talk about. I have included a copy and past of it in the lower text. I am still confused do I need the BCM or should I piggy back the ECM's for the gauges to work. I have a 98 sunfire and purchased a 04 3.4L GMA with the 04 4T45-E. I also have the computer for the same car. Thank you for advance and yes I will read the stick again.

The electronics from the ODB II 3x00 FWD engines (96 and later) can be used, but in most cases require a delete of the Passlock II (anti theft) system. Also, for gauges to properly work, you may need to swap the BCM from the same vehicle.

If you read further in the sticky, Jo Mx posted that he got his gauges to work with the Impala flash, not changing the BCM, but if you're using the J-body auto trans, the Impala flash won't work right with the tranny. Jo Mx posted some good info regarding this. I believe it's on the second or third page.

Axel, on pre 00, your gauges wont run off of the 3400 ecm. with or without the BCM, doesnt matter, the cluster wont work. In order to use your gauges I believe that you have to run double sensors and use the cav ecm. another route may be to switch your wiring over to 00+ cav and use the cav bcm and cluster. If your comfortable with wiring you may be able to wire in the cluster and bcm without changing the entire wiring. depends also if your worried about other systems that may be effected by a different cluster.
Easiest for you may be just to run the cav ecm and double sensors.

start reading here, I think there is also some in the sticky but the progress to thread was before the sticky was added.

this is where I get to my fuel gauge issue.
Note that I did have a malibu flash at first, the gauge worked then also, I think that was missed.. (for you 3100 guys, this 4t40e and 3100 has the most ,OEM potential, least headaches, quick swap!)
And the Impala works also, but the tranny wont fit the J directly whthout axle mods.
