Planing on doing a Ecotec Engine swap

Hi all,
Thanks to all in advance for reading .
I know tons of guys have put ecotech swap guides on this forum over the years .
I myself am planing to do the swap into my 1996 2.2l Cavalier .
My Cavalier is just a plain 2.2l w/ 3 speed Automatic .
I just got a rear ended 2003 cavalier for free , it has a 2.2l ecotec and 4 speed automatic .

Now I was searching in all the forums about it and saw tons of posts on how to do this swap .

I was hoping some of you guys could tell me from your experiances , who out there has the best
guides on how to do this swap .

Thanks again to all out there
Ryan

Look for pj's ecotec guide. Most of the user's who have swpped including myself have posted in their. Also since your's is a 96 you will need all the wiring. engine and cabin and all the computers everything. including the fuel system.

if your going from auto - auto

The engine and tranny will 100% bolt right into your car

You just have to change the engine wiring, dash harness incar harnees

Update the EVAP system

It's a good thing you've got the donor car there... you'll need everything off it.

Basically, strip your car and the donor car, then swap everything over. You'll need to do the fuel tank as well, as the level sender resistance changed between 98 and 99 model years, so if you use a 98 sender with a newer gauge cluster, it won't work.

You'll probably want to swap the dash and everything while you're at it... the newer cluster doesn't fit right in the older dash assembly. The airbags and modules and stuff you'll have to play with a bit to make it work, assuming you want working airbags.

One you get into it, you'll find things you have questions about.... like how to make the fuel lines on the car fit the new tank and stuff.... swap the whole lines from the donor car... brake lines while you're at it too. If the donor car doesn't have ABS you might want to hit up a wrecker for the dash harness with the ABS module wiring, and an ABS module too.

This is a good time to add options to the car that weren't there from the factory... if you want them... ie remote trunk release, power options, etc...

when i swapped my ecotec i swapped everything over. I swapped the gauges, interior, suspension, fuel tanks, brakes, i mean everything, it made it easier to wire everything by direct swap than rather splicing lines and what not. I also had a wrecked car with an eco that i could snag parts that i needed.

I know people have done the eco swap by not swapping everything over but in my case the eco swap was from a car with only 14000 miles on it and its reason why over the past 4 years the only problem i have ever had was a O2 sensor and a fuel pump....

Good luck buddy, you will need it!
