I have a 02 cav ls 2.2 eco, got check engine light so used a snap on diagnostic computer to find out what was going on exactly, you have to enter make, model, year and vin, vin was not matching with computer, so we tried 03 and it came up!!!! Does that mean i need to get 03 parts for it? the car looks like an 02 so im confused lol
@!#$ Hondas!!
no its probably because the snapon computer doesn't reconize and eco in the 02 since it was an add in part way through the model run
its technically a 2002 1/2
if you put in 2.2 OHV or 2.4 it would come up

interesting so then i should get 02 parts still right
@!#$ Hondas!!
if your cars an 02 get 02 parts the parts stores list an ECO as an option its just the snapon diagnosic tool doesn't.
not that it matters 02-03 eco parts are interchangable
you will run into issues using these kinda computers the best one in my opinion is Tech II at the dealer, i'm not a fan of the other ones

Wasn't there a recall at some point on some of the ECO cars where they basically just reflashed the PCM to the program for a newer year? I can remember people posting that their car felt faster after getting the recall fixed. And people were pointing out that the newer program gives a bit better power.

my best advice:
if you need parts for the car itself (brakes, suspension, etc) get 2002 stuff.
if you need parts for the transmission or engine, get 03+ stuff
in 03+ the only engine available is the L61 ecotec, so its impossible for auto store hacks to screw up
You'd be surprised. I had someone at autozone try to sell me belt tensioner for the 2.2 ohv and we knew it was the wrong one just by the size of the pulley (took the pulley off the old tensioner). The guy says its ok the difference in size won't harm anything electrical on the car.
