So i passed by the local chevy dealer and saw a 99 z24 vert. looked real nice. Almost nice enough to consider a trade of my 01 fire for it. price is 6k on the 'vert. whats the thoughts as opinions on the idea of trading in on that. it looked so tempting.
Do unto others as you would have done unto you
$6k is a lot for a 10 year old Cavalier... even if it is a nice convertible. You never know how it is til you own it... could be mint, could be a pretty lemon.
I'd check Craigslist for better deals if you really want a 'vert. A dealer is the most expensive way to buy a used car.
That is the same amount i payed for my 03. I would keep looking.

also depends on miles, for wat ever reasons the "suggested value" of a vert is alot more then a normal J
my vert BB value Private party in good condition is $4500 if i wasnt a vert its would bb at $3300, And if you were to buy a vert with my millage at a dealer you should expect around $6200
keep in mind i have 89000 miles on my car if the one you were looking at had more then that then its not worth it.
but lenko is right, look around i bought my vert 2 years ago with 72000 miles from a private seller for $4000
With most 'verts, the price will be lower in the Fall. I bought a '99 a year ago. If I had it to do again, I'd look for a pristine '00 as that was the last year for the 'vert and it got the latest electronics and systems upgrades. True, the unique Z24 facias of prior years are gone, but the '00 has the last emblems and spoiler design. I agree with others that dealers will be higher, but if they will extend some sort of warranty, it might be worth considering. Many private sellers dump their cars when the CEL or ABS lights come on and they don't want to deal with the expense of repairs. On the 'verts, check the condition of the various 'vert specific parts that are scarce and expensive like weatherstrip (often deteriorates), rear window glass (often separates) and top motors (even operation on both left and right).
