I've swapped in an ecotec from an 03 sunny into my 2000 Z24 and it will not start. the engine is in, mounted and ready to go. i'm using an auto harness/computer. instead of rewiring from the NSS i've wired a starter button in straight to the starter itself. i've performed passlock relearn. when i turn the key to run and crank it over with the starter button the engine turns over but will not start. when i turn the key to start and crank it over with the button i get the same thing, it doesn't start. i have fuel and am pretty sure i have spark (dont actually know how to check spark on the ecotec) yet it wont start. where do i start to find the problem?

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.
Did you do the re-learn three times, with going straight to start on the third try after the security light stops flashing?
i dont remember exactly how i did the relearn.... i would like to start over and learn it again. does that require the PCM be disconnected? or do i just do it again?

Just do it again, leave everything connected. The 95-99 cars are more forgiving than the 00-05 ones... make sure you follow the instructions in the FAQ to a tee:

Especially the part where it says to turn the ignition off before you try to start it after the third try. That's the killer step... lots of people will try to start it right then, once the light goes out... but it doesn't reset the PASSlock system until you turn it off on that third sequence....
Did you replace the ignition switch from the Ecotec car to the 2000 car?
FU Tuning
no the ecotec starting switch isn't on it, its the factory LD9 switch. i'll have to just try passlock relearn again i guess and pray for the best'
