Need some asst from convertible J-owners(top issue)

Hey guys haveing a little issue with the power top on my 00 cavy. so for the last week ive had to use the overide to put the top up n down. Last week the top when i went to put it up it was running slow but next time was fine(its slow but i fig it was just age). then a few days later i went to put it down and it didnt go down just released and sat there so i over rode it and went on with my day. then flipped it back to normal and top went up fine. then the next day neither up or down just sits there and has till today. Its getting old and embarssing having to lower and raise the top manuely. when the top was only going up the motors were working i just dont know where to start trouble shooting. ive checked my gm repair book for the verts and cant seem to find a answer relating to this. would this be the switch, or do the motors have a safetly kill switch of some kind to keep from burning out if fluid levels are below par. i know the older 80s drops had fluid motors that required top offs over time do the third gens have this. any help would be great with nice weather here the top needs to go down more often lol. i will try to assit with any info u need to help me solve this but the geist is top doesnt go up or down any more and started just not going down. also any way to make it go up and down a lil faster my buddy has a sebring convert and the top guy got it to go up n down faster just he wants to much to do it to the cav. thanks in advance .

No fluid in the third gen convertibles... the motors are wired together thru that override switch, so you can disconnect them from each other. You've got a bad motor, it sounds like.

bad motor, or two. jump on ebay and get an extra set. overall installing them isnt hard, but if you arent good with a wrench you may want to pay to have them installed.

Did you see the sticky at the top of this forum for the Third Gen convertible service manual supplement? I also saw a top motor replacement article in the FAQ or library somewhere.

any of you guys have a spare relay for the top? need for a 2000 drop top. the motors after messing around seem to be moving. not to well but they are yet i have to bypass the relay in the trunk to get them to do this. so it seem the relay is bad. ive checked ebay for almost a month now and saw once but by the time i was able to get home it ended and was unable to contact the guy. been doing manuel for a month now and its getting very old so wanna get this fixed. so if you have any top relays pm me thanks-

I may have one laying around... I'll have to go through a few boxes though to find it.
