I searched this and only found 2.4 stuff.
I blew the motor in the race car yesterday when i tried out a new track. They get going a lot faster and I was riding the rev limiter. Car was fast but didnt like the limiter, I ended up blowing a seal on the front of the motor and dumping a good quantity of oil on the firewall and spinning a rod bearing.
Its a 97 cavalier. I have a few spare motors around but the best/most complete one is a 95 and they dont have a cam sensor. Can my car run without a cam sensor? What sort of negative effects would come from running without one?
thanks
yes u you should have a cam sensor on your 95 2.2 im running a 95 2.2 if all else fails buy a haynes repair manual but u should have one more or less timing could be afected badlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
if it start the next day it can be driven harder
um... a 95 2.2 shouldnt have a cam sensor. 2.2's didnt have cam sensors until 96. And a haynes manual will tell you nothing of how a car is affected by missing a sensor. And i'm no obd2 expert but I'm pretty sure timing is based off the crank sensor.
I already did the research on this tho for anyone who finds this post later. If you run a 96+ car without a cam sensor it puts the injectors into batch fire mode. I still want to try it at a practice day or something but I'm pretty sure it will hurt performance. It definatly kills fuel economy.
