2.4 vs. eco
Monday, July 27, 2009 7:29 PM
I know this is probably going to open a can of worms, but I will post any way. What is a better motor for tuning, a 2.4 out of an 01 or a eco out of an 04? Thanks and sorry for all the trouble this may cause.

The big question is: Do you want off the shelf parts or custom made?

They both have the same potential, but the ecotec has more "off the shelf" parts.

probably more off the shelf parts since I don't have the tools to machine the parts or the money to pay someone to machine the parts.

i doubt that they both have the same potential, the 2.4 inherently should have more potential due to the difference in displacement.

although im sure the weight lessens this effect. honestly tinkles hit the nail on the head-but unless you are only capable of bolting things on & cant find anyone to help you with custom parts (cam grinds, intake manifolds, & some small things). if you are willing to have cams ground & customize some things designed for other motors, the ecotec is probably the better bet.

there really shouldnt be trouble caused from a thread that is non offensive, but then people want to hop on & start calling people things/saying rude or unnecessary things, offend someone, & then flame war city man. if people could respect that its just a forum, & not start the name calling/flaming bs-im sure we could all have a lot more interesting discussions if we didnt have to worry whos going to tear us down for our curiosity.

i say this is a great question, thats why i asked it like a week or 2 ago at the 60degree site & ive got lots of positive responses with no one flaming eachother.

I know a guy that can do cam work, but I don't know anyone that can take a solid piece of stock and machine a part out of it.

the part about causing problems is because I was asking fop opinions and I know that when you get more than one person's opinion, trouble is soon around the corner.

eco, just because its newer, in current production and of course the aftermarket. And in my experience the eco is more reliable. I still have a soft spot for the LGO tho, but I'd take an eco anyday over one.

that when you get more than one person's opinion, trouble is soon around the corner. This is what I was talking about. no offense, but you don't need to bring your conflicting interest into my post. Thanks

I have no problem with you posting your opinion, but this is what I would like to avoid, is all this side posting. I would like to get back to the main topic, so I can decide which car I would like to buy for my next project. Sorry if I sound rude, I am not trying to be. Thanks

its an open forum, your going to get side posting.

id say go with the eco. newer motor. allot more parts so when you have issues it should be easier to fix though 2.4 arn't to hard to find, but ive heard some guys wanting more money for those motors then you can get complete eco's for.
