I have 96 sunfire with 2.2 v6 swap ? Do you wire 2.2 and v6 harness together.Or what? And how to wire the stock tach up

You know i am pretty new here and have been reading about the v6 swap for a while. But just in the last week i think this has been asked 3 times.

do you research and NO ONE will tell you how to do it cause when it comes to wiring it can easily be fawked up if your unable to figure out the schematics on your own the you might as well pay someone to do it

its basically the v6 harness with the c100 and fuse block from the cav spliced in. im am talkin about a 3*00 swap and this is the most basics of awnsers ^^ is rite thats there wont be a very detailed awnser for many reasons. every1 is diffrent. o and if u want to put the v6 pcm in the stock cav local u need to do way more cutting and splicing because there is no obd2 harness set up for a pcm in the cav location. mine was all custom one wire at a time because i like the abuse.

After all the recent posts about piggybacking and getting 95-99 clusters working for a V6 swap, I might just have to dive back into figuring a way to flash the modified data stream description into an N-body ECM. It may just be worth my while.

Why does everyone piggyback pcms?? I wired everything straight to the pcm and everything works perfect on my 3x00 swap. 96 with Isuzu 5spd.

2000+ Impala pcm with the 96 2.2 harness. Used hp tuners and a snap on scanner.

I call complete BS on this. The 2000+ Impala harness uses a completely different baud rate and datastream protocol than the 96 Cluster does. The signals are not even close to compatible.

There's gotta be a million error codes coming up with that. If the thing even starts, it can't run very good.

I think we know of one person in this thread that doesn't have a swap.

Well then tell me why I wired it up and made it work? Yeah I have 2 evap codes and 1 auto trans code thats still in the pcm that i haven't messed with yet. And it runs perfect. Fires up no problem. I can read pinouts and never found a reason to piggyback the pcm. You have use some thinking. Im a auto tech for a living.

I have no doubt that the car runs. That's easy. However, your cluster can't be working correctly. That's why people piggy-back their ECMs on 95-99 cars.

Yeah but even if you piggyback pcms you still have to run it through the 3400 pcm. You gona be throwing more codes running two pcms which doesnt make sense. I checked everything with a scan tool. Temp is correct, speedo is more accurate than the 2.2 was. Fuel guage was not affected from the swap, except for one 5v ref wire from the sender. Ive had this car for 10 years and researched this swap for 3 years before I did it and got most of the info from youre sticky page which has awesome info. I was just able to make it work without running two pcms. I dont know why its so hard to believe.

I'm glad the sticky helped you. I hope it helps anyone interested in the swap.

As for the cluster, if you don't have a tach, then there is one thing you didn't have to worry about. The speedo has a 4000 ppm buffered pass-through feed at the ECM. The fuel and battery gauges are direct to the cluster on 95-99's, and (this is the only one I don't remember off the top of my head) IIRC, the temp is a pass-through feed as well, but on the 00+ vehicles, ther is no pass-throughj for this, because it's part of the class 2 data stream. The buffered speedo output is still in there because not all of the vehicles had incorporated this into the data stream yet. However, the majority of the warning lights go through the stream. With the difference in data protocols, it can't activate any of the lights for any codes you're throwing.

The bottom line is that if you want a 95-99 cluster to work 100% right with that ECM, you have to piggyback it with a compatible J-Body ECM. I have actually researched the serial data stream descriptions, and I have most of the info I need to be able to modify them, but there aren't any tuning programs which access this, so the bin files need to be manually changed, which requires decoding.

OH believe me! It definately had some warning lights on after the swap! Lol! The battery light was on, anti-theft light was on check eng, oil pressure, and the low coolant light was on. But got the gauges all to work anyway. My goal was just to do the swap without running two pcms.

For those that decide to piggyback, they do it for the Cluster lamps etc, NOT to get it running.
Will run without, but it the Warning lamps that are of concern.

Yeah it just came off that the fuel, temp, tach and speedo wouldn't work if I didnt use two pcms. LOVE the 3500 swap you did by the way! Working on mine right now. 3400 blew up at 900miles.

was it because of your wiring that it blew up????
