ok i wanna swap a 3100 v6 in my wifes sunfire gt.i am doing this more for reliability and since i cant find a 2.3 anywhere.but she cant drive stick so i have to retain the auto tranny .if i use a grand am of around the same vintage(her car is a 95)can i just use the trans from the donor car.or would i be better off getting a 2.2 cav tranny and trying to use that.ive read lots of threads and this is the only thing im lost on

You can absolutely use a 3100 and tranny from a similar year Grand Am. The transmission on those is the 4t40e, so it will bolt right in. (or the PCM will run the J body 2.2 tranny if you get one from there).
