i have a 99 cavalier z24 and the motor is blown. it is extremely uncommon to find a cavy with a 2.4 in my area i am wondering if a 2.2 or a 2200 sfi would be easily swapped in for a temp motor ..
it would be harder to swap the 2200 in. you have to swap all the wiring and @!#$. just wait till you find a 2.4

what is worth selling from a blown 2.4?

the trans, the interior, the fenders/hood, the wheels if they're not steelies...

sounds about right if you're buying an engine to rebuild.

if it were me, i'd still crack it open and replace everything. especially one a twin cam. water pump, timing components, head gasket, rod and main bearings, oil pump.

it threw 3 rods out of the side of the block.. though..
if it were me i'd throw the replacement junkyard 2.4 in and drive it.

New Brunswick NJ?
If so let me know, I would swap for your car so I had a place to put my ld9 when I eco swap.
i have been looking at sunfire gts, malibu's and grand ams.. there was never alot of them here in new brunswick canada.. but i have found a few
there are 3 2.4's ina junkyard up the road from me i'm located in pei canada .the going rpice is 300 bucks for a real good runner
whats the going for one i can rebuild?
prob the same if it's not blown ull be lookin at 300 prob .but i wouldnt bother with a rebuild if it was me.i'd just use the donor to get the car on the road.unless it's not your daily and u dont mind if it sits for a while.if thats the case i can prob find a good block cheap with crank etc in it.but u'd prob have to get the cranked turned down and such
I am in the process of replacing the motor on my old '00 Z. The old lady's sister kept driving it with the rod knock (We gave it to her when we replaced the car). Hopefully turn the key this week.
The motor I have going in is out of an '01 alero. Fairly simple to do providing you know how to replace an engine. Cost from the yard was $700ish.
Kinda sucks, I thought I saw something on GM dropping the prices on 2.4's. From what I understand they are close to the $900 range now.
But I didn't buy it. I'm just being paid to fix it.

i see 900ish is crate? cause that isnt too bad. but i doubt i would put that much into this cavi i only bought it for 100$ and it doesnt matter to me if it lasts longer then 3 yrs or so..
I can't find it anywhere for that price, But I have seen it posted. I think it's way wrong though.
From a different thread
