OBD2 plug in OBD 1 cpu

I have a 95 cav 2.2 my plug in is a OBD 2 plug in, and my cpu is OBD 1 when plugging my scanner to read a code it wont read it , being it is the switch over year between 1&2 is there any other way I can get a reading from it and my scanner does read both 1&2 Thanks
