My 2.2 is done finally with a new oversize piston kit, flat deck, and a fresh head, just sitting there on the bench pretty as you please waiting for its install, while gazzing down into the engine bay looking things over a bit, i noticed that the section that the motor and tranny bolts to, along with the lower controlling arms, (not sure what its called) is getting kinda rusty. I figured since theres a fresh mill going back in, i'd like to coat it with POR15 or chassy saver. It looks to me, like it would unbolt from the floor board, which would make it easier to work on. Has anyone ever removed one of thiese from the undercarage before, or is it worth the trouble?
If i correctlyunderstand what you are explaining, that would be the subframe or sometimes called the engine cradle. It definately isn't hard to drop. If your gonna put a prettied up engine in there then i would drop it and paint it. If you have the knowhow to remove and rebuild an engine then dropping the cradle should be cake for you. How much work is involved depends on if you pulled the trans out with engine or left it in there. Good luck
I wouldn't even worry about it, you cant see it from the top anyway that much unless your really looking.

Yeah thanx for the great info, but decided to go ahead and pass on dropping it because i tried to remove one of the bolts, which was really in there and might have broken off if i forced it to much. Besides it looks like i can still reach a great deal of the subframe in the future when i get around to it.
