3100 vs. 3400, gas mileage
Thursday, September 30, 2010 9:50 AM
would there be a big difference in gas mileage from a 3100 vs a 3400? im planning on putting a 3400 into my sunfire and just checking to see if there would be large enough gain in gas mileage to go with a 3.1 over a 3.4. thanks.

Well, if you get the 3100 you should only get one that's 2000 or newer, ortherwise it's pretty much a waste.

My 3400 got me 23mpg wtih a not real professional tune on mixed city/highway driving stuff, heavily abused with WOT pulls from stop signs and red lights.

I was gonna see what it got when driving it nicely, but my starter went out. So I ripped out the whole engine harness to change it. Car's been down for a while.

You're swapping in a V6 and you're concerned about gas mileage?

This question just doesn't make sense. If you are concerned about saving a little money by using the more fuel effecient engine, why not just save ALOT of money and not swap to a v6?

A 2.2 5spd is rated at 33mpg highway. Don't expect to get that with the v6

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the mileage on the V6 is bad by any means, but when you're concerned with gas mileage, swapping from a 2.2l 4 cylinder to a 3.1 or 3.4l 6 cylinder doesn't make sense.
