most shops dont do f/i swaps, especially if they cant get a premade harness, 2000+ is easy, plug and play - 95-99 takes time and patience

I made my harness in one night. Not really that hard.

Where abouts in Canada are you? I'm having my harness done by a member here for what I think is pretty reasonable.

I ageree with john, "95-99 takes time and patience". I look at it like this, it is a learning experience for you. If you have everyone doing your work for you what are you going to learn? I thought it was a great learning experience for me and all the other people who did this swap. Let us know how much you paid for your harness, if you go that route, I am interested. I personally would go to the JY and get a harness and start wiring and learning. Get out the books and go to the library use ALL DATA and prepare to spend some time. At some poing in life you are going to have to do something for your self and not rely on others. Take the oportunity to learn, the only thing your lacking is motovation and perserverance. Good luck

Not quite that easy, the 2.4 to the 3.4 is my current project. My car is in my backyard engineless. =[

wish people that don't make harnesses or haven't done such a swap would keep out of it its far from plug and play when i'm done with them they are but if they are plug and play then why is there so much time invested in them. its not just connect wires like people say you have to match circuits or you may end up powering too much off a 10A fuse and next to nothing off a 20A
SLY you have my quote and that included shipping it back to youyou ship your harness to me and when its done it will come back if you want a PCM tuned by HP tuners thats extra but we'll talk later about that i do know theres guys in your area that have it

95-99 i have a harness for sale 50$.
technically its not a 95-99 its a 96-98 that could work on a 95 but 99 wont work unles syou relocate your evap from the rear to the front.
watch what you say cause that could come back to haunt you. i always build my harness as per cars that way when i send them out i know i wont get a car saying this wont read this isn't working because it does matter

i agree with NOTa2-4, its not plug and play and it is complecated with the older styles, the 3.4 swap is easier on the 00+ models because you dont have to swap as much, i have a buddy that did the 3.4 swap and got DC customs on the JCO to do it , and he has a 98 sunfire. He says all the time that he wishes for the time hassle and money that he would have done an eco swap. So make sure before you do it that you actually want it, and if you need help and are in toronto area go on the j-body.com and talk to DC customs about it, he is in the same area and he has done a few 3.4 swaps and knows what hes doing and were to get everything, i think my buddy for a wiring harness was in the area of 500ish. but talk to DC customs and he will letcha know everything you need to know (or check out DIY forums)

3.4 or 3400?
Isnt the 3.4 a quad cam motor? Didnt think that would find in a J.
"Oil Leak ? What oil Leak ? Oh, Thats Just The Sweat From All The HorsePower!!"
the 3.4 isnt found in a J-body, found in various GM cars (grand am, montana, etc) but they can be made to fit. alot of ppl have done it, same as the 3.1 pretty much. Same comparison as a 2.3L and a 2.4L .
and 3.4 , 3400 , or LA1 are all the same motor.
The 3400 is similar to the 2.8, 3.1, 3100, 3400, 3500. The 3.4 DoHC was found in mid 90's Pontiac Grand Prix GTp and similar cars, can be put in a j-body but its a ton of work. Rewiring alot of stuff new transmission, you might as well swap in the 3800 over the 3.4 Dohc. When most people say the 3.4 theyre talking about the 3400, way easier to swap in a j-body than the 3.4 Dohc.
Kyle Bechard wrote:and 3.4 , 3400 , or LA1 are all the same motor.
The 3400 is a 3.4L engine, but when people say 3.4 they are usually refering to the 3.4DOHC, which is more complicated than a 3400 swap.

I hope that remark wasn't pointed in my direction!!
I've done this swap, and others
I did this years before the
"sticky" was a sticky, just posts
easy and hard are relative to a persons' training, background, experiences etc etc
having owned over 2 dozen 3rd gen j bodies, "plug and play" for me may be a nightmare for others
my first 3X00 swap in a jbody, I used a 2001 grand prix 3100 engine and pcm, no bcm, and piggybacked it to my 98 cavalier 5 speed --
over 6 years ago
I may not get online that often, but when I do, I try to help.
too many times I see people asking stupid or the same questions over and over because they dont take the time to search- then some wiseXXX gets on and flames them
SO- ANYONE THAT WANTS TO DO THIS SWAP- MAKE SURE YOU CAN FOLLOW THRU THE WHOLE PROCESS- START TO FINISH -- EITHER BY YOURSELF, WITH FREINDS, OR BUYING PARTS/ HARNESSES, ETC (CASH)-- BEFORE YOU EVER LIFT A WRENCH

Not sure if you really understand the meaning of "plug and play" then.
"In computing, 'plug and play is a term used to describe the characteristic of a universal serial bus, or device specification, which facilitates the discovery of a hardware component in a system, without the need for physical device configuration, or user intervention in resolving resource conflicts."
If you ask me or anyone else on here, i'm sure. Given the above definition means that all you have to do is hook up a harness to all it's connection points. Turn the key, and it will start and run, just like it was installed by the factory. Everyone here, including yourself, knows that this is not the case. The minute you cut and splice one wire from one harness into another in order to "piggyback" anything, it is no longer "plug and play"
